How to wear a crochet bandana: 5 ways to tie it

· 3 min read

Beaded crochet bandana scarf — still life

A crochet bandana is a triangle of stitches finished with two ties. It takes ten seconds to tie and lifts a simple outfit. Here are five ways to wear it, with our crochet bandanas and hair snoods.

1. As a classic bandana

Place the base of the triangle on your forehead, with the point towards the back. Tie the ends under your hair, at the nape of the neck, over the point. With loose hair or a low plait, it is the easy bohemian look of summer.

2. As a headband

Fold the point towards the base to make a band, place it on your hair like an Alice band and tie it at the nape. The beaded bandanas, in black or pink, then let their beads frame your face.

3. Around the neck, as a scarf

Point at the front, ties knotted behind the neck: over an open shirt, a Breton top or a round neckline, it takes the place of a necklace. The coral orange bandana brightens white or navy.

4. On a bag handle

Tie it around a bag handle, flat or in a knot: it adds colour to an ecru tote or a black bag. It is also a way to keep it to hand for the evening.

5. Around a bun

Wrap it around a high bun and tie the ends underneath: the beads of the mustard yellow bandana dress up your hair for a summer party. To wrap the whole bun, the beaded turquoise hair snood is made for the job.

What to wear it with

Linen, cotton, denim, printed dresses: the crochet bandana loves natural materials. Choose a colour picked up from your outfit, or a bold contrast against a plain one.

Through the seasons

In summer, tie it in your hair or on the handle of a tote; between seasons, wear it at the neck, over a shirt or a denim jacket; in winter, it remains a hair accessory under a coat, or a pop of colour on a black bag. The beaded styles can also be worn in the evening, as a headband, with a plain dress.

How to make it stay put all day

On very sleek hair, one or two hairpins slipped under the ties are enough. Do not pull on the beads when you tie it: they are worked into the stitches.
