How to care for an epoxy resin table or clock

· 2 min read

Resin wall clock — styled

Epoxy resin is strong and glossy, but it has three enemies: heat, harsh products and direct sunlight. With a few simple habits, a resin table or clock keeps its shine for years.

Everyday cleaning

A soft, dry or slightly damp cloth is all you need for dust and fingerprints. Dry straight away with a clean cloth. On a dark, glossy surface, a microfibre cloth avoids streaks.

Products to avoid

  • Abrasive products, scouring sponges and cream cleansers: they scratch the surface.
  • Alcohol, acetone and solvents: they can dull or damage the resin.
  • Ammonia-based glass cleaners, used repeatedly.

For a stubborn mark, use a little warm water and a drop of mild soap, then rinse and dry.

Heat

Never put a very hot cup, a saucepan or an iron directly on a resin table: heat can mark or soften the surface. Always use a coaster or a trivet.

Sunlight

UV rays can yellow resin, especially white bases, and fade dried flowers. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight, or behind a net curtain.

Scratches

Put felt pads under heavy or rough objects (lamps, ceramic vases). A fine scratch can be softened with a polish made for resin; for a deep scratch, ask for advice before doing anything.

How to move a resin piece

Wrap the tabletop or the clock flat in a thick blanket, with nothing on top; protect the corners and the mineral edge, which are more fragile than the surface. Do not leave the piece in a vehicle in full sun.

The clock

A soft, dry cloth on the dial and the edge; no water near the movement. Hang it on a dry wall, away from a cooker or a shower.
