Engagement gifts: giving an occasion jewellery set

· 4 min read

Grand ceremony set — on velvet

In many families, the jewellery set is the engagement gift above all others: given by the fiancé, his mother or the family, it will be worn on the wedding day and kept afterwards. Here is how to choose a ceremony set as a gift, depending on the person, the planned outfit and the budget.

A set to wear at the wedding

If the set is to be worn on the day itself, it should be gold-tone and beaded: the grand ceremony set in beads and gold-tone medallions or the complete ceremony set, at €99, with the ceremony belt to complete it. It works with a gold-thread embroidered bolero as well as with a white dress. Discreetly ask about the colour of the planned outfit: white beads for any dress, amber-tone beads for a warm-toned outfit.

A set to wear often

If you prefer a piece she can wear all year round, coloured stones are the right choice: rose quartz, citrine-tone, jade, amber-tone. Necklace and earrings at €69, in a colour that means something: pink for tenderness, yellow for light, green for luck, depending on the family.

The complete outfit

As a gift from the family, thegold-embroidered bolero and matching clutch set at €129, together with a jewellery set, gives the bride-to-be her whole outfit for the engagement party itself. See our embroidered waistcoat and bolero collection.

How to choose without getting it wrong

Three questions are enough. What colour is the engagement outfit, and the one planned for the wedding? White beads and gold-tone medallions go with all of them; amber-tone beads with warm-toned outfits. Does she tend to wear necklaces short or long? A bib or a choker for an open neckline, a long necklace for a high-necked dress. Does she already have family jewellery? If so, give the modern set that complements it; if not, give the full grand set, which will serve as her wedding jewellery. And if you are torn between two, choose the lighter one: a set worn many times is worth more than one admired in its box.

Presenting it

The set is often presented in front of both families on the evening of the engagement. Take it out of its shipping packaging and present it in its pouch, necklace laid out, earrings beside it. If a ceremony belt is part of the gift, present it separately. A written note, however short, goes well with the piece: where it comes from, why this colour. Our sets are assembled in Paris, one at a time; it is a detail worth mentioning.
